Emporia has launched the next generation of the Vue Energy Monitor. Dedicated to offering the best value at the most affordable price, the Vue equips you with all you need to track your entire home's energy consumption in real time. Discover your home's electricity usage from anywhere, at any time.

Features and Benefits

  • READY FOR 3-PHASE: Incorporates an additional 200A Sensor for light commercial 3-phase/4-wire electrical systems (up to 415Y/240VAC & less than 600A). Not compatible with 3-phase/3-wire systems (Delta systems without neutral).

NO NEED TO PURCHASE AN EXTRA SENSOR

  • INSTALLS IN CIRCUIT PANEL of most homes with clamp-on sensors, though typically not suitable for panels with busbar access only. INSPECT YOUR ELECTRICAL PANEL for compatibility.
  • 24/7 ENERGY MONITORING: Track your home's real power consumption anytime and anywhere to avert costly repairs, save energy, and reduce costs. Also, monitor solar/net metering. PROTECTED BY A 1-YEAR WARRANTY.
  • LOWER YOUR ELECTRIC BILL: Get real-time spending insights and actionable notifications to identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • REAL-TIME ENERGY DATA: Requires 2.4 GHz WIFI with internet connection to monitor energy use through the iPhone/Android/Web app. Vue sensors are accurate within ±2%. The Vue is UL and CE certified. 1-second data is accessible only in the app (when actively open) and retained for 3 hours. Minute, and hour data are stored in the cloud; 1-minute data for 7 days, and 1-hour data indefinitely. Export cloud data anytime via the app.
  • APPLIANCE MONITORING WITHOUT GUESSWORK: Add up to sixteen 50A sensors for precise monitoring of your air conditioner, furnace, water heater, washer, dryer, range, etc.
  • Power the Vue directly from a 15A or 20A breaker
  • Professional installation recommended
  • Granular 1-second data interval
  • Operates regardless of your utility
  • Add up to sixteen 50A sensors to monitor individual circuits
  • Interact with your Emporia Vue via your mobile device or laptop
  • Real-time monitoring of your energy usage and production with detailed units and measurements
  • Actionable notifications to help you:
    • Conserve energy
    • Lower carbon emissions
    • Increase grid reliability
    • Generate energy savings
    • Shift usage patterns from peak to off-peak
    • Receive clear calculations showing your savings when you follow Emporia Vue's recommendations

Monitoring Only One or Two of Three Phases

Questions

"Due to space constraints, we can only install two current transformers (CTs) to monitor a three-phase circuit. Is there a correction factor for monitoring only two of the three phases?"

"What if we only monitor one of the three phases?"

Answer

In balanced three-phase, four-wire (wye) circuits, each CT measures exactly one-third of the total current. If measuring two of the three phases, you multiply your results by 1.5 to get the correct value. For just one phase, multiply by 3.

Limitations

Several imbalance scenarios can reduce accuracy:

  • Load imbalance: Three-phase motors are usually balanced, but other loads may not be. If monitoring multiple loads on a floor, imbalance is likely.
  • Voltage imbalance: Slight imbalances are normal, but service specifics or other loads can exacerbate them. For instance, one phase voltage being 1.0% higher than others, if not monitored, causes a 0.5% low power reading.
  • Grounded phase voltage: When one phase voltage is grounded ("grounded delta" or "grounded leg"), the WattNode meter reads zero power on that phase. Monitor the other two phases and remove the 1.5 correction factor. Ensure both active phases are monitored for accurate results.

Recommendations

Use a hand-held power analyzer or multimeter (DMM) to ensure the load is balanced. Measure the power on each phase with the analyzer, or phase-to-neutral/ground voltages with the DMM. Verify current balance using a current clamp meter if applicable.

Extra Notes

Doesn't Blondel’s Theorem allow using two CTs for a three-phase, three-wire (delta) circuit?

Yes, but the WattNode meters only support using ground or neutral as reference points, not one of the voltage phases, hence disallowing Blondel's Theorem for WNB and WNC meters. For balanced loads, you could use one CT and multiply by 3 or use two and multiply by 1.5.

In setups with potential transformers (PTs), the PT secondary can be wired as a reference point, enabling WNB and WNC meters to use two CTs for measurement. The WND series meters can measure 3-phase 3-wire delta, 4-wire delta, and corner grounded delta services with only two CTs.
