I operate a WarmTone in daily production and have had experience with Toolex Alpha and SMT presses in other plants. While I haven't tried the Pheenix Alpha or Newbilt hands-on, I can’t comment directly on their mechanical operations, but it's clear that I am quite a WT enthusiast. I will provide a comprehensive perspective from both an operator's and business owner's viewpoint, as these interests can sometimes conflict. Therefore, I have outlined essential decision factors to consider when purchasing one of these new presses.

Customer Service

From my perspective, customer service is paramount. An advanced high-tech press is useless if it takes weeks to get support when it breaks down. Although my experience with Pheenix Alpha or Newbilt's after-sales is limited, early interactions with these companies led us to reconsider. Given Pheenix’s almost nonexistent web presence and Newbilt's insistence on going through a less experienced local sales agent, Viryl’s responsiveness within 10 minutes and detailed information were deciding factors for us. The efficient online ticket system for customer service and tech support further cemented our decision.

Geography

Additionally, consider the geography. Newbilt and Pheenix are more Euro-centric, which may result in better service in European regions. On the other hand, Viryl is more North American focused but still maintains a noticeable international presence. Being based in a small country with no other pressing plants made this aspect crucial for us.

Price

While we didn't receive a formal quote from Pheenix, the Newbilt duplex system was less expensive than the WarmTone. An entire basic plant with Newbilt and ancillary equipment could be built for the price of a WarmTone without molds, boiler, or additional equipment.

Versatility

The Newbilt offers more flexibility in producing picture discs, splatter vinyl, and other special formats which the WarmTone does not support. Although the WT does not run in semi-auto mode, Viryl’s upcoming semi-auto LiteTone might offer a solution. Rapid mold changeovers with the WT should also be considered if you plan to operate a single press facility. The WT requires some adjustments for 7" conversions, but it works adequately for occasional 7" orders.

Mold Changeover

Mold changeovers on the WarmTone can be completed in roughly 10 minutes by an experienced operator with an assistant. The trimmer module's mobility allows easy access to the press chassis, and a 7" conversion or reversion can be done in about an hour with two engineers.

Stamper Changeover

Stamper changeovers on the WarmTone take a maximum of 3 minutes. The process is straightforward and efficient, making it ideal for short-run operations.

Safety

Modern machines, including Pheenix and WarmTone, offer significant improvements in safety compared to older models. The WarmTone, with its advanced safety features like solenoid locks and software interlocks, emphasizes preventing operator injuries.

Reliability & Service

Determining the reliability of new machines is challenging due to their limited runtime. However, the WarmTone comes with a thorough operator's manual, and its automation and electrical parts are readily available off the shelf. While Newbilt may appear slower, the WarmTone and Pheenix likely have comparable cycle times.

Cycle Times and Process

Viryl’s internet-connected software, ADAPT, enables remote monitoring and problem-solving for presses. The well-designed HMI and extruder compatibility with various PVC compounds add utility.
