Plastic film on stainless steel?
Plastic film on stainless steel?
The electric dryer has been making thumping noises. Very loud. I dont normally do the laundry, so not sure if this was a gradual buildup of the noise. Did teardown to pull drum out, looking for wear of any kind. Nothing obvious at all. In putting things back together, drum showed the clicking/thumping noise still occurring. Inspection of the four drum rollers shows absolutely no wear or wobble of roller axis. Took off belt tension and clicking/thumping stopped: drum and its frame supports appear sound. This would indicate something is going on with the idler pulley/spring assembly and/or belt. There is no obvious wear of pulley (nothing loose or wobbly) or wear (stretch wear) of the belt. I am here because I know the experienced large appliance tech can tell immediately what it is. I put up images of the pulley at my dad's request. The pulley has a slot in that apparently where the belt fits in. I am guessing something is going on between belt and pulley where the belt snaps into or out of the slot, causing the thumping noise, perhaps causing snapping actions between the pulley spring and belt. But not sure. While there are nice videos on YT, they address the video makers particular problem while providing good illustration of teardown which his common to us all. Below is a screencap of one video showing an idler pulley assembly where the video creator was actually servicing the assembly with replacement (red: idler pulley with arm; green: pulley arm tension spring; yellow, belt in its course through assembly; purple: shutoff switch if pulley loses tension presumably because of belt break). This could be our issue but not clear.
