Understand LED Displays: Facts, Technology & Power
What is LED?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. It emits light due to electric luminescence, often called "cold light." Unlike traditional incandescent bulbs that produce light by heating a metal filament, LEDs generate light by allowing electric current to flow through two specially coated silicon semiconductors. This method is highly energy-efficient and power-saving.
The structure of an LED includes solid materials with no moving parts, often encapsulated in transparent plastic, providing high durability. When activated, LEDs emit almost no heat, minimizing the cooling needs for electronic components.

The first LED was invented by Russian inventor Oleg Losev in 1927. Initially, only infrared, red, and yellow LEDs were available, commonly used in devices like remote controls and clock radios.
In 1994, Japanese scientist Shuji Nakamura developed an efficient blue LED. This breakthrough paved the way for white and green LEDs, sparking a revolution in lighting and display technologies.
